General ration distribution for the poor is a grassroots level ministry amongst the poorest of the poor. Every Wednesday some of the neediest living in abject poverty approach CMCT for any little help they can get. After surveying and assessing their circumstances their names are registered to receive general rations. Twice a month general rations are distributed by the dedicated staff of the social services department to over 400 families in an atmosphere of compassion, love and care. Recipients receive rations of rice, oil, flour, sugar, spices and pulses - essentials sufficient to sustain a family. The toothless grin of gratitude by Mariamma, a 70 year old widow, bent over double and barely able to walk, or the gratitude of thanks in the eyes of Selvi a young mother of 4, as they receive their rations is a true testament to the impact of this ministry.
Apart from general ration distribution, as part of the holistic development of the individual, staff regularly follow-up on the wellbeing of the recipients, provide counselling, conduct regular meetings, and offer words of encouragement. It is always gratifying to see the gradual but sure empowerment of this neglected section of society.
