Rainbow Ministry of Hope
The Rainbow Ministry of Hope, started in 2001, was started for people affected by HIV/AIDS. In India alone an estimated 3.3 million people are affected by this disease. As its name suggests, Rainbow the symbol of hope, is at the heart of this ministry. It aims to meet the physical and emotional needs and endeavors to bring hope for a better life for both the afflicted and their families. Professional social workers dedicated to this ministry conduct surveys, do follow-ups, counsel patients and conduct self-employment training programs. The aim is to bring about holistic healing by meeting physical, emotional, and moral needs.
The Rainbow ministry Self Employment Training program provides about 30 women infected by HIV/AIDS, training in handicraft skills, such as tailoring, candle making, flower making and jewelry making. The products are sold both locally and overseas through CMCT’s Handicraft department. CMCT also provide sponsorship to cover the educational costs of 50 children from affected families.
General rations, such as rice, pulses, oil, sugar etc., are also distributed twice a month to over 160 families. What started as a ministry to just a few affected families has now grown to assist over 260 patients. The provisions supplied are enough to feed a family of four for 15 days and contain all the basic nutrients needed for a healthy life. Once a month additional special rations of boost and manna, health drinks that contain additional nutrients, are provided for AIDS patients who are physically extremely weak and unable work or for families with children infected with HIV/AIDS.

Each fortnight when the families come to collect their rations there is a time of singing, talks and watching skits performed by the staff. For those patients who have just no other hope in living, CMCT while responding for their physical needs also stresses on hope in God.
